Johnny’s Final Gift

Some of y’all will recall that our long-time billygoat Johnny passed away a few months ago.  He was a gentle giant and he sired nearly 300 kids during his time with us. We miss the stinky old guy.

Gone, but not forgotten

Gone, but not forgotten

A couple of weeks ago we discovered that our doe Ramona had kidded, long after the rest of the herd.

She gave us a strapping lad.

Even as his health was rapidly declining and old age was about to claim Johnny, he had managed faithfully to do his duty one last time.

That thought made us smile.

Kids are the cutest things ever. There is a flock of goats (with leashes!) that visits a pasture I walk through occasionally. The kids are so much fun to watch as they frolic.

What a delightful surprise that must have been. There’s nothing more admirable than dedication to one’s work!
