Food is erupting all around us.
These days we’re harvesting (or about to harvest) asparagus, lettuce, spinach, kale, collards, chard, broccoli, and other things.
We have potatoes, beets, onions, garlic, cabbage, chinese cabbage, mizuna, Tokyo bekana, peas and lots of other stuff on the way.
I’ve planted purple hull peas, sweet corn and October beans. Over the next few days I’ll be adding black beans, more green beans, squash, watermelons, cantaloupe, okra, cucumbers, zucchini, tomatoes, peppers and eggplant.
The clutch of eggs one of our hens has been sitting on has started hatching. There were several little chicks peeking out from under her when I checked on her last night.
And maybe best of all, our pigs will be in here in the next couple of weeks.
It’s a great time of year.
