Garden Sunrise

SAMSUNG

I took this a couple of weeks ago.  This garden, which I worried and fretted over in the summer, has flourished in our cool, wet fall.

Here’s one I took yesterday at sunrise.

SAMSUNG

After sometimes struggling to keep up with our CSA commitments this summer, now we’re awash in vegetables and need to find more markets for them.

We’re harvesting collards, 3 varieties of kale, 4 varieties of lettuce, purple hull peas, tomatoes, okra, rainbow chard, 5 varieties of Asian veggies and probably other things I can’t recall right now.  In the next few days we’ll harvest our sweet potatoes and begin cutting our broccoli. The spinach is almost ready, as are more of our lettuces.  Cabbage, Chinese cabbage, cauliflower, brussels sprouts and lots of other goodies are on the way as well.

It’s just a great time of year for gardening.

It has turned out very well. 🙂 Fortunately for us, our other brassicas garden has done equally well. One of the root crop gardens was a fail. But all in all it’s been a really good fall so far.

  3. Beautiful. Such abundance. That’s the way it goes, for sure – feast or famine.

You have a farmers market worth of garden there 🙂 The sunrise photo is beautiful.

  5. I once made a garden cake, chocolate frosting the soil with rows of “plants” made out of candies. It looked almost as perfect as your weed-free rows and abundant veggies. My actual garden is blessed with abundance and even more weeds.

I love that idea for a cake. 🙂
There are weeds in that garden, though certainly not as many as in a summer garden. But it has done well and the veggies are definitely outperforming the weeds. I must have just gotten lucky in the timing of the tilling this year.
