A Season for Love

Romance is in the air on White Flint Farm.

Goats have a five month gestation period and the events of the past two weeks indicate that December 24 through January 2 will be a very busy and productive time around here. Happy holidays indeed.

A lot of our nannies have been vying for the attention of Johnny, our billy goat, and he has stepped up to the challenge.

When he goes courting, Johnny sets aside his normal lazy and mellow demeanor, transforming instead into a bellowing, foul-smelling love machine.  In this state, of course, the does find his charms irresistible.

With 207 kids to his credit, Johnny is a seasoned pro, even if older and somewhat less vigorous than he once was.

Johnny was the first kid born on our farm.  He has served it well.

  1. ” … a bellowing, foul smelling love machine.” Pure goat poetry … sigh… 🙂

What female goat could turn down a face like that? (that first picture cracks me up ):-)

  3. He’s “served” the farm well – lol.

And just think – he doesn’t even need Facebook, Twitter or texts to work his magic. 😉

True. He woos them the old-fashioned way: by hollering and by peeing on his own head.

      (I know, too much information. 😉 )

I thought you were joking. You weren’t. “How to Breed Goats for Dummies” was a fine early morning read. It provided a laugh or two, not to mention an occasional Really? 😉

wow, thanksgiving has to be a difficult affair for him…
