I just read that of the 88,000 inmates released from New York City jails in FY 2012, 42% returned to jail within a year.  69% of all released high-risk inmates returned to jail within a year.

Oh well, on the bright side, that means 58% of inmates (31% of high-risk inmates) managed to avoid becoming incarcerated again for a full year after their release.
