What should I make of this apple tree?
Is it confused?
Or is it just a rebel?
Maybe while the rest of the trees are going dormant, this one chooses to shake an arborial fist at impending winter.
Maybe this one dreams of a second spring and has taken a leap of faith.
Maybe this doesn’t want the maples getting all the attention these days, and it’s showing off a bit.
Maybe this one just decided to present the farm with a parting gift before the sleep of winter begins.
Whatever the reason, I am grateful for this little bloom. It will never be an apple, but it seems satisfied to be a pretty little note in our symphony of color.
