Plants, worms and bees

Another gem from Norman Wirzba:

We can spend a lot of time debating whether or not Paul and the early Christians really believed worms, plants and bees be included in God’s salvation of the world.  In certain respects, the debate is beside the point.  Unless we believe that God cares only about disembodied souls–a position consistently condemned by the church as heretical–then it is all of creation or none of it that God will save.  Human life simply makes no sense apart from the life of all creation.  We live only because the worms, plants and bees do too.  And they live because God loves them.

  1. I admire your confidence in the idea that god loves the worm and you and me and Hitler and all rabid foxes and pedaphiles and each shrimp in the seas.

But it all makes me somewhat quesy too.

But i’m with you on Wendell. I am certain that god loves w berry.

  2. Bill says:

    Me too. 🙂
In fact, Mr. Berry is compelling evidence for the existence of God. 🙂
