So long Little Debbie

I edited junk food out of my life years ago.  But every now and then, if I’m away from home and feeling like a snack, I’ll buy one of my old favorites from my childhood–a Little Debbie oatmeal creme pie.  A few days ago I was in town and I stopped for gas.  Feeling kind of hungry, I bought a Little Debbie.  And for the first time in my life I read the list of its ingredients.

The 2 1/2 ounce cookie has dozens of ingredients, most unpronounceable chemicals.  The list fills nearly half of the back of the plastic wrapper the cookie comes in.  Among other things, it reveals that he cookie has more corn syrup in it than oatmeal.  To call the ingredients unappetizing would be a major understatement.  It looks like a list put together by some mad scientist.  It’s hard to believe someone actually came up with the idea of blending all this together and calling it “food.”

So I’m done with these things.  I’ll satisfy my love of oatmeal cookies with an ocassional homemade one.

Adios Little Debbie.  Good riddance.
