Monsanto Monopoly

Monsanto controls over 90% of seed genetics. It is estimated that 95% of U.S. soy and 80% of U.S. corn contain Monsanto traits.

Monsanto’s contracts give deep discounts to smaller seed companies on the condition that their inventories must contain at least 70% Monsanto seed products. Any change in ownership requires destruction of the inventory, meaning as a practical matter only Monsanto can buy them out.

Monsanto has purchased over 200 companies in the past few years.

Food, Inc. indeed.
