We’ve had some rough and sad experiences during this month’s kidding, but I don’t want that to be our emphasis. We have a whole bunch of happy playful kids romping around the pasture these days. They don’t pose well for pictures, since they don’t stay still very long (especially when they’re playing king of the hill), but here’s a few shots of some of the newest residents of White Flint.

I cannot explain how happy those sweet little things make me. Their faces are beyond this world. It is so cute how they play King of the Hill, wanting to be up there, even if it’s only a cement block and the one who mastered that stump is surveying his or her kingdom, for sure. Wonderful images. You live in a beautiful place.
Thanks Teresa. A better photographer (or me with a better camera) would capture it all better. The camera I’m using has a real slow shudder speed so if I catch them in a great pose it’s just pure luck. For example each kid would rule that stump for just a few seconds before another one would jump up and push it off. I snapped dozens of pictures trying to catch that and failed.
Beyond the unutterable beauty of the kids, it looks as though they have a lot in common with the spring lambs we used to enjoy. There’s the same playfulness – although that King of the Hill business is more goat, and absolutely delightful.
My grandparents had a combination fruit cellar/storm cellar that was dug into the ground and mounded, with a dirt and plank ceiling. I suspect now my coal-miner grandpa used some techniques he’d learned in the mines to construct it.
In any event, I used to play King of the Hill atop that thing. I’m not certain why children began being called “kids”, but there’s at least a hint of it here.
That is just adorable! I love the pigtails.
Wow, the right size to hold and snuggle. Is there only one “brownie”? And when they are on the upturned tank, do they mind the sound it makes, or seem to like it? Pretty joyful, that’s for sure!
Yes, there’s only one Brownie (and that’s his name). We’ve never had a kid who looks like him. He’s about half the size of his twin brother and is very playful and tame. I’ve had requests to share more pictures of him so I’ll try to do that sometime.

You must be kidding me.
